P-block


  • P-block has 6 group [group no. 13 to 18].

  • Some elements are metal and some elements are non metal and some elements are semiconductors.

  • element of 17 group and 16 group has high negative electron gain enthalpy.

  • Elements of S and P block is called as Representative elements or main group elements.


Group: 13

  • General electronic configuration: ns² np¹

  • Element of this group is Boron(B), Aluminium(Al), Gallium(Ga), Indium(In) Titanium(Tl).

Group: 14

  • General electronic configuration: ns² np².
  • Element of this group is Carbon(C), Silicon(Si), Germanium(Ge), Standium
Group: 15
  • Elements of this group is also known as pnictogens because this gas causes suffocation. [Panic = suffocation]

  • General electronic configuration: ns² np³

  • Elements of this group is nitrogen(N), phosphorus(P), arsenic(As), antimony(Sb), and Bismuth(Bi).


Group: 16

  • Element of this group is known as chalcogens because they make minerals.

  • General electronic configuration: ns² np⁴.

  • Group 16 elements is Oxygen(O), sulphur(S), selenium(Se), tellurium(Te) and polonium(Po).


Group: 17

  • Element of this group is known as halogen because they make salt. [ Helo= salt ]

  • General electronic configuration: ns² np5

  • Group 17 elements is Fluorine(F), Chlorine(Cl), Bromine(Br), Iodine(I) and Astatine(At).


Group: 18

  • Element of this group is known as noble gas.

  • General electronic configuration: ns² np6.

  • Group 18 elements is Helium(He), Neon(Ne), Argon(At), Krypton(Kr), and Radon(Rn).
